Industrial automation with a systems mindset.

I build structured automation solutions that connect real machines, controllers, safety systems and data infrastructure — with a focus on maintainability, diagnostics, and “showcase-worthy” quality in both program structure and HMI design.

About

Automation engineer based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, with a strong focus on PLC programming, industrial system integration, and bridging classic automation with modern data & communication layers.

Projects

R&D Automation Wall – Industrial Test & Integration Platform

Modular multi-controller platform for structured testing, visualization, and scalable device integration in an R&D environment.

What I built:
  • Multi-PLC integration (Siemens + Beckhoff) with a structured architecture for test workflows
  • OPC UA communication layer for standardized connectivity and scalable expansion
  • SQL Server data logging for traceable process data, evaluation, and long-term performance analysis
  • Clear diagnostics concept and maintainable program structure (focus: readability + reusability)
Technologies: Siemens S7-1500, Beckhoff, SCL, OPC UA, SQL Server

Showcase Automation Wall – Safety & High-End HMI Integration

Showcase-ready automation platform with integrated safety, professional visualization, and presentation-grade quality in both HMI and PLC logic.

Highlights:
  • Integrated safety logic with Failsafe CPU + PROFIsafe
  • Structured, modular SCL programming (clean FB structure, error handling, diagnostics)
  • WinCC visualization built to be clear, responsive and “demo-quality”
  • JavaScript enhancements for advanced HMI behavior and improved user interaction
Technologies: Siemens S7-1500 Failsafe, PROFIsafe, WinCC, SCL, JavaScript

Legacy PLC → Modern Infrastructure Bridge (S7-300 / S7-1200 / OPC UA)

Practical solution for integrating older automation systems into modern digital infrastructure without replacing the whole machine.

What was implemented:
  • PUT/GET communication between S7-300 and S7-1200 to extract and transfer machine data
  • OPC UA handover of key values to higher-level infrastructure for further analysis / integration
  • Remote retrofit concept: parameters can be adjusted centrally from PC instead of manual changes at touch panels
  • Result: faster workflows, better transparency, and “old + new” technology combined efficiently
Technologies: Siemens S7-300, Siemens S7-1200, PUT/GET, OPC UA

Granulate Conveying System – Pump & Feed Control

Automated control logic for a granulate transport / feeding process used to supply machines with material.

System features:
  • State-based sequencing (start/stop, transport phases, interlocks)
  • Operational monitoring and fault handling for stable industrial operation
  • Clear diagnostics and transparent machine states for the operator
Technologies: Siemens PLC, SCL (state-based control)

Line-Following Robot Rebuild – Sensors, PWM Motor Control & Automation Logic

Complete rebuild of a former mowing robot into a line-following automation project with industrial PLC control.

What I rebuilt / implemented:
  • Line-following logic using light sensors + LED indicators for state feedback
  • Ultrasonic sensing for obstacle awareness / safety behavior
  • PWM motor control on Siemens S7-1500 for smooth drive control and consistent tracking behavior
  • Structured program approach (clean logic, testable behavior, clear states)
Technologies: Siemens S7-1500, PWM motor control, light sensors, LEDs, ultrasonic sensors

Festo Station – System Coordination & Public Presentation (BBZ Schaffhausen)

Large-scale educational automation project with multiple sub-stations, coordination, testing and presentation in an official setting.

Context:
  • Part of a multi-station Festo system where multiple learners developed individual stations
  • Focus on coordination, testing, sorting/processing steps and stable interaction between stations
  • Presented in an official setting (BBZ / regional stakeholders)
